“I like to move it, move it.” Few hooks in 90s dance music have proven more unstoppable. First a No. 1 smash in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands in 1993. Then No. 5 in the UK. Then immortalised in the DreamWorks animated film Madagascar in 2005 and introduced to an entirely new generation. The Mad Stuntman — real name Mark Quashie — is the Trinidadian-born vocalist behind one of the most enduring dancefloor anthems ever made, and he is available to book through Poise Artists for events worldwide.
Mark Quashie (born 24 January 1966) is a Trinidadian-born American electronic dance artist and vocalist. His moniker was inspired by the 1980s action/adventure television program The Fall Guy. Based in Brooklyn, New York, he was introduced to Colombian-American producer Erick Morillo through Panamanian reggae artist El General. Morillo was looking for an act to be featured on his upcoming single and to ultimately join him on tour as a group.
The chemistry was immediate. Quashie’s raw, energetic ragga-infused vocal style was unlike anything on the dance charts, and it became the defining element of Reel 2 Real’s sound.
“I Like to Move It” became a number-one hit in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and Zimbabwe, and reached number five on the UK Singles Chart. At the second International Dance Awards in 1995, it won the award for Best Tune of the Year. The Mad Stuntman proved to be one of Erick Morillo’s most valuable artists, appearing on four of Reel 2 Real’s top-ten dance hits.
Then in 2005, DreamWorks featured the song in Madagascar, introducing it to hundreds of millions of new fans across the globe and cementing its status as one of the most culturally pervasive dance tracks in history.
