In January 1992, a dance version of KC & the Sunshine Band’s classic “Please Don’t Go” exploded across European dancefloors and never really left. Double You, led by British-Italian vocalist William Naraine, took that timeless ballad and turned it into one of the defining eurodance anthems of the decade — selling over 3 million copies worldwide and earning Gold and Platinum certifications across Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. William Naraine continues to perform live as Double You and is available to book through Poise Artists.
William Naraine was born in London on 29 December 1965. His mother is Italian and his father is of Indian origin. Growing up between London and Italy, William developed a soulful vocal style shaped by his love of Prince, George Michael, Marvin Gaye, and Terence Trent D’Arby. Double You was founded in 1985 by vocalist William Naraine, keyboardist and producer Franco Amato, and DJ Andrea de Antoni
in La Spezia, Italy. In 1991, the trio met producer Roberto Zanetti, and the rest is dance music history.
Recorded in December 1991 and released in January 1992, “Please Don’t Go” was an instant hit. By 1992, they had sold more than three million records. “Please Don’t Go,” a dance version of KC & the Sunshine Band’s 1979 ballad, earned many Gold and Platinum records in Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia. The track was particularly notable in that it was dedicated by William Naraine to his mother, who died in November 1991
— giving the song a personal emotional weight that audiences worldwide connected with deeply. Follow-up singles including “We All Need Love,” “Missing You,” “Part-Time Lover,” and “Run to Me” kept Double You at the forefront of the eurodance scene throughout the 90s.
Double You has maintained an active presence on the international touring circuit for decades, with a particularly strong following across Brazil, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. William Naraine continues to front the group live, delivering the classic catalogue with the warmth and soul that made those records connect with audiences across the globe.
